Group Info

This is a group for _ART_. Art is not self-censored, with watermarks, or logos.

Artists have fought for centuries to make their art available without black-bars, obscuring dots, or other changes imposed by others.

Right now, we are setting up for photography only, but if we can find some people willing to run other types of galleries, we may consider it in the near future.

Only non-obtrusive copyright/by-lines are allowed. The DA watermark, any text/logo across the middle of the image, or any other intrusive markings are not allowed. In addition, we will check your gallery, and if you watermark your images/art your submission will be rejected, as will your membership request.

The group will also help spread understanding about what watermarks do and do not do, what posting or uploading to the Internet is all about, and similar creative freedom expressions.

But Watermark = Signature.
Artists have been doing it since art started. I don't see what's so wrong with them :/

I hate watermarks too.
Especially those big watermarks like the DA mark that ruins everything. It's not fun to look at those...

Why is joining the group closed? It's a little bit empty here :/

Thank you for being an inconsiderate, insensitive, arrogant, and NASTY person!!! You accused me of something that is not in evidence -- eg: art theft -- which is LIBELOUS. It's also a REFLECTION of _YOUR_ thinking, not anyone else's.

Thanks for helping show WHY this group was founded.

Thanks for proving my point.

Now, go away.

LOL..... "Grow up?" YOU need to grow up -- SERIOUSLY.

Prove a point? Doesn't even provide an example. As you said, "It's the Internet".

I've been on-line for a loooong time. Longer than DA. Longer than there's been an Internet. Probably longer than you've been alive. You don't list your age, but I'm sure it's young.

I was one of the _VERY_ first people to post images/graphics on-line, EVER, and thus, I was one of the first people to have images stolen. I had over 5000 pirated at once by my publisher and distributed all over the far east -- over 50,000 CD's back when CD's were brand new and there were no such things as home cd burners. I was posting _nude_ images in the old Hercules Green-Screen Graphics days -- BEFORE COLOR. I ran my own BBS's, and ran forums/SIGS on some of the major online services. That makes me a pre-pioneer of the Internet and posting art/graphics.

My name is attached and associated with many of the earliest discussions, conferences, and such on IP rights for artists on-line.

Watermarks don't stop anything, except people bothering to look at your stuff. Period.

Lots of people -- GOOD ARTISTS (not wannabe's ) do not watermark their work.

So, when you accuse me of promoting art theft because I think watermarks are childish, immature, and selfish, *YOU* have lost all credibility with me -- and many others -- simply for lashing out and accusing someone you don't know of something they didn't do, say, or encourage.

So, I have no desire to EVER talk with you again.

Grow up. Do not accuse someone of something you see when you look in the mirror. YOU think "art theft" so that is all you see in others.

I'm glad someone started this group!

I think there's a great image that illustrates the point: [link]

I don't think you need to limit your group to photography, plenty of other artforms use watermarks.

If there is interest, and people to moderate it, I said I'd consider expanding.

But it would be better if DA allowed people to "Watch" galleries, not just the whole group. Not everyone is interested in such a variety of art.
